What Does Tree Felling Cost in Edenvale?

Tree felling in Edenvale costs from about R850 for a small, easy tree to R25,000 or more for a large or dangerous one. Most home jobs land between R2,500 and R12,000.

Tree size Typical height Typical price
Small treeUp to 5mR850 to R2,500
Medium tree5m to 10mR2,500 to R6,500
Large tree10m to 20mR6,500 to R15,000
Extra-large tree20m and aboveR15,000 to R25,000+

Stump grinding adds R500 to R4,500 or more, and we charge the same rates for emergencies, with no after-hours surcharge. Tight access, a tree over a roof or shared wall, and how much wood we haul away all move the final figure. See the full breakdown on our tree felling prices page.

Is It Cheaper to Trim or Cut Down a Tree?

For a healthy tree, trimming almost always costs less. Pruning or crown reduction runs R650 to R3,500, while felling a large tree runs R6,500 to R15,000. If the tree is sound and only too heavy, too close to the roof or blocking light, trim it. If it is dead, diseased or unstable, trimming only delays the cost of removing it.

Do You Need Permission to Cut Down a Tree in Edenvale?

Edenvale falls under the City of Ekurhuleni, and three rules matter.

Street trees belong to the municipality. Under Ekurhuleni's by-laws for street trees, a tree planted on the sidewalk becomes municipal property. Only the municipality's parks department, or a contractor it appoints, may prune or remove it. Breaking the by-law carries a fine of up to R2,000, up to 6 months' imprisonment, or both, and the City calculates removal charges using the Helliwell tree valuation system.

Your tree can become the City's problem. If a tree on your property endangers the street or damages municipal services, the by-laws allow Ekurhuleni to order you to remove it.

Protected trees need a licence. Section 15 of the National Forests Act, 1998 bans cutting, damaging or removing a protected tree, such as the marula, the camel thorn or the shepherd's tree, without a licence from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment.

Tree Felling in Edenvale Townhouse Complexes and Estates

Much of Edenvale lives in townhouse and sectional title complexes, where trees often stand on common property close to shared walls, carports and units. In most complexes, the body corporate or managing agent decides on tree work on common property, so get their approval first.

We make that easy. We send a written, itemised quote the trustees can approve. We rope trees down in sections so shared walls and parked cars stay safe, and we clean up before we leave. Tell us the complex's access rules when you book.

When Is the Best Time to Fell a Tree in Edenvale?

The dormant season is usually best. Davey Tree's arborists recommend late winter to early spring, because leafless trees are lighter and easier to cut and handle. In Gauteng, that means the dry winter months, before the spring growth.

A dangerous tree should not wait for winter. If a tree leans, its roots lift the ground, or it threatens your house or a neighbour's, have it dealt with straight away, whatever the month.

Which Areas Around Edenvale Do We Cover?

We fell trees across Edenvale, including Greenstone Hill, Dowerglen, Dunvegan, Edenglen, Illiondale, Hurlyvale, Clarens Park and Elma Park. We also work in neighbouring Kempton Park, Bedfordview, Germiston and Boksburg.
